What is it about your MBA program that students love the most?

Preparation in analytics and the personalization of the Krannert experience.

Tell us about one new course that has recently been added to your curriculum in the last year.  How do you see this influencing the current cohort?

Krannert offered a number of new courses this year but we wish to highlight three:

"Using R For Analytics”:  As the name suggests, the course focuses on teaching R to students.  Using R, they learn to manipulate data objects, produce graphics, and invoke appropriate statistical techniques for data analysis.  Given how widely R is becoming adopted as a statistical software in many companies, students taking this course will be uniquely positioned to offer value in the industry.

“Big Data”: This course is geared toward teaching students how to develop solutions with big data ecosystem such as Hadoop; and also focus on models such as MapReduce.  The students work on various example datasets, including from Twitter.  Since large scale data storage has become very prevalent, we believe that managers exposed to these technologies will be able to better interface with the data and provide more thoughtful business insights.

“Spreadsheets and Microprogramming”:  Students in this course learn to use excel in conjunction with Visual Basic macro programming.  Again, we hear that students with better ability to manipulate data and analyze them faster will appeal to companies better.  Macroprogramming is aimed at providing such a value to our students.

If you could invite a fictional character to lecture in one of your courses, who would it be and what course would he/she teach?  Why?

Tony Stark from Stark Industries (from the DC Comics series - Iron Man) –   Because of Mr. Stark’s genius in innovation, which aligns perfectly with the culture at Krannert, he would lecture in a series on innovation and entrepreneurship that changes the world.
