What is it about your MBA program that students love the most?

The mix of technology innovation, management, sustainable business and entrepreneurship.
Tell us about one new course that has recently been added to your curriculum in the last year.  How do you see this influencing the current cohort?

Strategic Corporate and Industrial Cybersecurity, provides decision-makers with a set of tools and methods to understand the nuts and bolts and implications of cybersecurity and to manage the problem effectively and responsibly. It will teach the basics of strategic cybersecurity and cyber risk assessment, how to reduce exposure and vulnerabilities, how to set up the necessary expertise and technology, how to organize decision-making processes and responsibilities, and it will include a thorough look at the newly emerging industry 4.0.

ESMT Berlin MBA graduates increasingly start their own companies or find themselves working between management and technology sectors in large corporations. This course is but one example of how the MBA prepares graduates to solve new challenges in business.

If you could invite a fictional character to lecture in one of your courses, who would it be and what course would he/she teach?  Why?

Josef K. from Kafka’s “The Trial”, The first human to live on Mars, Thomas A. Anderson from “The Matrix”, God, MacGyver, Albus Dumbledore from “Harry Potter”…

I didn’t think that the response should be from the perspective of one person, since ESMT Berlin is made up of many people, obviously. So I asked staff, students and faculty their opinions for this question. No one came back with the same character, but they all, in some way or another responded with very similar reasons for their character to lecture at ESMT and similar course themes.

The course would focus on responsible leadership.  The lecturers are all, perhaps arguably, doers of good who do not hide behind other people, make the right decisions through leadership and innovation, in the end, and work to foster chance through innovation. These are all recurring themes in the foundation of ESMT and for the basis of course design across all programs. We hope graduates will take away all of these principles and integrate them into their future management styles and business structures.

 ESMT Berlin

ESMT Berlin was founded by 25 multinational corporations. The MBA focuses on developing global, entrepreneurial leaders specializing in Managing Innovation and Technology and Sustainable Business. Classes are around 70 students (95% international) each year scheduled from January to December and are held entirely in English. Approximately 80% of graduates work in Europe each year, mostly in Germany.  The program is an intense, personalized program wherein students discover and constantly re-evaluate their individual managerial styles. The MBA is ranked #2 globally for value for money by the Financial Times, and #13 globally and 1st in Germany by Bloomberg Businessweek.
